Hope For Recovery is a free 8-hour class to help family members understand and support each other. It’s our only class that is open to both family members and people living with mental illness.

Hope For Recovery is open to both family of adults living with mental illness and adults living with mental illness.  Class members can share valuable information and experiences, while also developing mutual understanding.

NAMI-NYC developed Hope for Recovery into a two-day (4 hours/day) experience where people with mental illness and families can learn together.  This makes it truly groundbreaking. It’s designed so that each group learns to see the world from each other’s perspective.  We know in our hearts—and the research demonstrates—that this is the best and most effective way to support recovery.

In the class we talk about…

  • Understanding mental illness as a brain disease
  • Improving communications
  • Problem-solving strategies
  • What to do in a crisis
  • What we mean when we say “living in recovery”
