Mentor Match Programs

Do you have a family member with mental health issues? Do you feel alone and overwhelmed? We can help.

Taking care of someone with a mental health issue can be isolating and overwhelming. We can connect you with free, one-on-one support from one family member to another, by telephone.

Our programs match you with someone whose family member has a similar diagnosis or situation.  Our mentors have “been there,” where you are, and are ready to provide emotional support.

Are you a parent of someone with a mental illness? You need Parent Match.

Please note: As of August 2021, our Parent Match program is temporarily on hold.

You can still connect with our Helpline to be added to our waitlist and we will contact you when the program starts again. In the meantime, we encourage you to check our support group for Parents of Children & Young Adults.

Parents of Children & Young Adults is a peer-run self-help group offering support and practical information in a welcoming environment. Share your experiences and learn coping strategies from fellow parents. This meeting is facilitated by a parent of a child with mental health needs. 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, 1pm to 2:30pm ET.

Are you a sibling, partner, spouse, or daughter or son of someone with a mental illness? You need Family Match.

Your Mentor Match will call you to:

  • Provide emotional support.
  • Listen to your story.
  • Share experiences.
  • Share ideas for taking care of yourself.
  • Share ideas for advocating for your loved one across the mental health systems.

“Parent Match is awesome. When I needed the strength to get through the next 5 minutes, she would listen and say, ‘Yes, that sucks.’ She didn’t try to solve, or to minimize. She listened, and she talked about similar experiences, and how she got through them. There was nothing I could say that she hadn’t seen, done, or been through before…there was a lot of comfort in that.” — Karen, parent

To get started, contact the Helpline at 212-684-3264 or via email, and ask for a parent or family match.
