Dear Referring Partner,
The way most providers refer individuals and families to the National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York City (NAMI-NYC) is by giving them our phone number or website URL and encouraging them to reach out to us. Roughly 50% of the individuals referred by a provider in this manner wait anywhere from six weeks to six months between learning about us and reaching out, if they reach out at all.
NAMI-NYC’s Rapid Referral Program is designed to flip this traditional referral mechanism, taking the onus of making contact off the individual being referred, and empowering NAMI-NYC to proactively reach out to offer our free support programs and services.
Rapid Referral is designed to make it as easy as possible for you to connect families and individuals affected by mental illness to NAMI-NYC.
This free service is the most efficient way for you to link families and individuals living with mental illness directly to NAMI-NYC’s Helpline by completing a simple, one-page form and submitting it directly to our Helpline electronically. The links above will enable you to access the referral tool.
Once NAMI-NYC receives your referral, one of our trained Helpline volunteers or a NAMI-NYC staff member will contact the referred individual within three business days to share with them information about the full array of programs and services we offer.
These programs include an array of evidence-based education classes designed for specific audiences (parents of children and adolescents, family and friends of adults, individuals living with mental illness), more than 30 monthly support groups, individualized telephonic support.
These programs and services benefit both individuals living with mental illness as well as family and friends who support the recovery of someone living with mental illness. After initial contact is made, you will receive follow up from NAMI-NYC so you know your referral was received and responded to.
All of NAMI-NYC’s programs and services are available FREE OF CHARGE to anyone who needs them.
Our Helpline offers information, education, and support, weekdays from 10 am – 6 pm.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not accept anonymous referrals, nor will we contact any individual without his or her expressed consent.
